Staff for 2020

Principal - Mr Sonny Smith

I have been an educator since 2000 and started my teaching career at Sacred Heart, Booval. After 4 years there I took a teaching position with Edmund Rice Education at St Laurence’s College, South Brisbane before accepting my first leadership role at Nudgee Junior College (NJC), Indooroopilly as Deputy Principal. I stayed there for nine years and was part of the Project Management Team which saw NJC grow into Ambrose Treacy College (ATC), which is a Year 4 to Year 12 College. I re-entered Brisbane Catholic Education in 2015 and spent time at St James, Coorparoo, St Oliver Plunkett, Cannon Hill and Immaculate Heart, Leichhardt before accepting the position as Principal at St Ann’s School, Redbank Plains. I feel very blessed to have been appointed to this community and work on an open and transparent platform where I am listening to the voices of our families to make sure we are developing a strong faith based and learning community. Please feel free to pop in and have a chat at any time during the school term.

Most of my time outside of school is taken up chasing my children Grace (Year 7), Kobe (Year 6) and Jobe (Year 3) across most of South East Qld as they play a multitude of sports and are involved in many additional co-curricular activities. I am a firm believer in creating a good balance for children between outside and inside play. We have a dog named, Jacko (he is a Jack Russell and my children named him) and my favourite holiday destination is Stradbroke Island as it makes me feel like I am going overseas. We are looking forward to opening next year and developing strong relationships within our community as we are Inspired by Faith to Innovate, Contribute and Thrive.

Primary Learning Leader (PLL) - Miss Kathleen Andzue

Hello!  My name is Kathleen Andzue and I’m super excited to join St Ann’s as the Primary Learning Leader.

I have three children with Francis plus a dog (Haku) that the kids call the fourth child. As a family we love the arts, especially music and have a passion for the outdoors. You’ll usually find us out at the beach or lake swimming, kayaking or fishing. I also love to read and can cook a pretty decent chicken curry – well, my family think so.

I come to St Ann’s after spending ten years at St Francis College in Crestmead as an Arts Teacher, Classroom Teacher and Primary Learning Leader. I’ve taught in New Zealand and Nauru and have recently returned from Singapore observing teaching and learning practices.

I feel very fortunate to be part of  the St Ann’s Community and cannot wait to meet you all.

Support Teacher Inclusive Education (STIE) - Ms Beth Matthews

Matthews, Beth.jpg
My name is Beth Matthews and I am honoured to be the foundation Support Teacher: Inclusive Education at St Ann’s School.  I firmly believe that I have the best job in the whole school because my role allows me to work with all the amazing parents, children and staff at St Ann’s and to champion those students whose learning experiences are enhanced by targeted support.

Anyone can need extra support at any point in time, either because they have been sick and missed some school, are injured and having trouble writing or getting around, sad because they’ve lost a beloved pet, grieving a family member or friend or battling the daily issues that arise from additional learning needs.  Although qualified to teach P – 12, my specialty areas have been Literacy support and Inclusive Education for more than 25 years.

My family and I share our home life with 12 pets.  I enjoy working with my horses and am learning a few words in Spanish to praise them during our liberty lessons.  I have been lucky enough to see some other parts of our incredible planet and look forward to travelling more with my husband when our twins are financially independent!

If you are at Town Square before the end of the school year please feel free to pop into our enrolment office and introduce yourselves.  I would love to meet you and your beautiful child.

Finance Officer - Mrs Karen Robb

Robb, Karen.jpg
Hi.  I'm Karen – Proud mother to two wonderful boys.
In my spare time I love to lace up my hiking boots and go exploring – just to see what is around the next corner.  I am a traveller at heart and love to get away exploring in our caravan heading to the beach, the bush and anywhere our heart takes us.  I also love reading, yoga and Pilates.  You can find me fossicking at antique and collectables fairs, and garage sales looking to add to my collection of Shelley china and dreaming about all the things I love but can't afford.
I come to St Ann's as the Finance Officer from 14 years at Sacred Heart School in Booval.  I will be your contact person for School Fees.  I encourage you to pop in and say hi to put a face to the name.  I understand there are times in a families life where meeting School Fees may be difficult.  Please feel you can talk to me at any time.  We are here to help and can work out a payment plan agreeable to both you and the school.  I have found over the years open communication between families and the school eases the stress on both sides.  Of course these arrangements are always confidential.
I am excited to be part of the St Ann's family and look forward to getting to know you and your family over the coming years.

question is too silly, no issue is too small. If I can help, I will and if I can't, I can have another member of our fantastic team get in contact with you. I will be first point of contact for your little ones also. If they feel unwell or if they need a band aid or even just five minutes of TLC. They will always feel welcomed and listened to.
