Staff for 2020
Principal - Mr Sonny Smith
I have been an educator since 2000 and started my teaching
career at Sacred Heart, Booval. After 4 years there I took a teaching position
with Edmund Rice Education at St Laurence’s College, South Brisbane before
accepting my first leadership role at Nudgee Junior College (NJC),
Indooroopilly as Deputy Principal. I stayed there for nine years and was part
of the Project Management Team which saw NJC grow into Ambrose Treacy College
(ATC), which is a Year 4 to Year 12 College. I re-entered Brisbane Catholic
Education in 2015 and spent time at St James, Coorparoo, St Oliver Plunkett,
Cannon Hill and Immaculate Heart, Leichhardt before accepting the position as
Principal at St Ann’s School, Redbank Plains. I feel very blessed to
have been appointed to this community and work on an open and transparent
platform where I am listening to the voices of our families to make sure we are
developing a strong faith based and learning community. Please feel free to pop
in and have a chat at any time during the school term.
Most of my time outside of school is taken up chasing my children Grace (Year 7), Kobe (Year 6) and Jobe (Year 3) across most of South East Qld as they play a multitude of sports and are involved in many additional co-curricular activities. I am a firm believer in creating a good balance for children between outside and inside play. We have a dog named, Jacko (he is a Jack Russell and my children named him) and my favourite holiday destination is Stradbroke Island as it makes me feel like I am going overseas. We are looking forward to opening next year and developing strong relationships within our community as we are Inspired by Faith to Innovate, Contribute and Thrive.
Assistant Principal Religious Education (APRE) - Mrs Katie O'Kane
My husband and I have two children and a little puppy called
Athena. We are an active family and I
particularly enjoy playing sports, being my own Master Chef and going to the
beach. I have a strong commitment to my
faith and parish community and look forward to sharing this with the community
of St Ann’s.
Please come and introduce yourself to me, I am always happy
to have a chat. I look forward to working
with you and your family to build a welcoming and supportive community where your
children can grow, flourish and enjoy life.
Primary Learning Leader (PLL) - Miss Kathleen Andzue
I have three children with Francis plus a dog (Haku) that the kids
call the fourth child. As a family we love the arts, especially music and have
a passion for the outdoors. You’ll usually find us out at the beach or lake
swimming, kayaking or fishing. I also love to read and can cook a pretty decent
chicken curry – well, my family think so.
I come to St Ann’s after spending ten years at St Francis College
in Crestmead as an Arts Teacher, Classroom Teacher and Primary Learning Leader.
I’ve taught in New Zealand and Nauru and have recently returned from Singapore
observing teaching and learning practices.
I feel very fortunate to be part of the St Ann’s Community and cannot wait to
meet you all.
Support Teacher Inclusive Education (STIE) - Ms Beth Matthews
Anyone can need extra support at any point in time, either because
they have been sick and missed some school, are injured and having trouble
writing or getting around, sad because they’ve lost a beloved pet, grieving a
family member or friend or battling the daily issues that arise from additional
learning needs. Although qualified to teach P – 12, my specialty areas
have been Literacy support and Inclusive Education for more than 25 years.
My family and I share our home life with 12 pets. I enjoy
working with my horses and am learning a few words in Spanish to praise them
during our liberty lessons. I have been lucky enough to see some other
parts of our incredible planet and look forward to travelling more with my
husband when our twins are financially independent!
If you are at Town Square before the end of the school year please
feel free to pop into our enrolment office and introduce yourselves. I
would love to meet you and your beautiful child.
